Bootcamp 4 the Cure

Five years ago, Merie Abercrombie, along with her business partner Beate Damm, of Best Body Bootcamp Fitness, founded Bootcamp 4 the Cure to raise money for The Mermaid Project.  Neither woman has had breast cancer but they wanted to provide an innovative way to increase breast cancer awareness and Bootcamp 4 the Cure allows them to do their part in joining the fight for women battling this cancer!

Merie said, “Typically cities host fun runs or walking events during October for breast cancer awareness.  My goal for Bootcamp 4 the Cure is to provide a fun and different avenue of fundraising (bootcamp fitness) for Brazoria County.”

They wanted to put 100% of the event proceeds back into the local community and chose The Mermaid Project as its serves local women and men who do not have insurance or the ability to pay for mammograms and breast care diagnostics.

November 21, 2015 over 75 participants came out in the rain to raise money for The Mermaid Project at the 5th annual Bootcamp 4 the Cure fundraiser.   With a fitness course of ropes, exercises consisting of jumping jacks, push-ups, squats, jogging, etc the participants were able to raise $2,524!

Since 2010 Bootcamp 4 the Cure has raised $16,838 for The Mermaid Project.  Merie credits the success of the event to the passion so many women and men have for staying fit and helping raise money for those in need of breast health care.
