Brazosport Christian School Donates to Brazosport Health Foundation’s Mermaid Fund

Brazosport Christian School’s Cheerleaders and the Varsity Softball Ladies Team raised $475.00 for The Mermaid Project.  The Cheerleaders enlist each of the school’s sport teams to choose one day and sell baked goods during lunches and the cheerleaders select a football game in October as a “Pink Out” and sell baked goods during the game.

The Varsity Softball Ladies Team dedicates one of their home games as a Pink Out game and bake sale to raise money for Mermaid.  This year three women who are cancer survivors threw out a pitch with a pink softball.  The honorees in 2015 were Sandy Anthony, who is in remission from lung cancer and Delores Hibbetts and Rebecca Hollifield, breast cancer survivors.   The game day stands and dugouts are decorated with pink fabrics, flowers, balloons; the team members, coaches, umpires and parents all wear pink celebrating the journey of cancer survivors.

These young women are passionate about volunteering and making a difference in our community with raising funds for breast health care education and prevention provided by The Mermaid Project.  They understand the impact of breast cancer on families as some of their mothers and other family members have undergone treatment for breast cancer.

The Mermaid Project provides financial assistance to women and men who need mammograms and other diagnostic services and who are uninsured or do not have the ability to pay.  The mammograms must be scheduled with the Imaging Department at Brazosport Regional Health System by the patient or health care provider.  To learn more please call Brazosport Health Foundation at 979-297-6190.
