Adelaide R. Thorpe Scholarship FundA scholarship fund that helps remove financial barriers for nursing students with demonstrated academic ability and a desire to care for those who are injured or ill. It is a full scholarship, including funds for tuition, books, and some living expenses. Recipients must attend Brazosport College and are expected to work at Brazosport Regional Health System for two years following the completion of their nursing education. The scholarship was founded in 2007 as a tribute to Adelaide Thorpe in honor of her unprecedented dedication to Brazosport Regional. As one of the very first Pink Ladies, the original all-lady group of hospital volunteers, Mrs. Thorpe began a life-long journey of volunteer service, starting at the Dow Hospital. She continued as a Pink Lady at the renamed Community Hospital in 1961. During that time, Mrs. Thorpe joined the hospital’s Board of Trustees and also became a member of the Institutional Review Board. She has remained on the Institutional Review Board for 37 years and continues to be an active member. She also currently serves as a member of the Brazosport Health Foundation Board. "This scholarship is so very important to me because my late husband, Vincent, and I both had scholarships to attend college. Nurses are the heart of any hospital and we need many more of them," said Mrs. Thorpe. An advisory group has been established to oversee the Fund, including the selection of recipients. Thorpe Scholarship Fund Advisory Committee Members are: Doris Williams, Dr. Bruce Meyers, George Franklin, Janis Warny, Dr. Millicent Valek, Dan Buche, and Patty Green. Adelaide R.
