The Mermaid ProjectThe fundamental goal of The Mermaid Project is to transform potential victims of breast cancer into survivors. To meet this goal, the Project provides free breast cancer screening, diagnostics and treatment to qualifying low-income, uninsured women and men living in Southern Brazoria County. We are able to do this thanks to the many generous donations from individuals, corporations and foundations. The Project is coordinated by a patient navigator, who is an experienced RN. She guides patients through the application process and helps them receive the medical services they need. The Mermaid Project also holds a monthly support group meeting at Brazosport Regional and provides breast cancer awareness presentations throughout the community. Medical review of The Mermaid Project is maintained by the Project’s Medical Director, Dr. Emerardo Falcon, and an advisory group comprised of doctors, key department directors and high-level administrators from Brazosport Regional and the Brazosport Cancer Center. |
